3-Door VIP Toilet Block

A VIP toilet block gets bought for two reasons, and neither of them is comfort. Occupational health and safety law does not treat site sanitation as optional, and an inspector who finds none does not issue a warning, they stop the work. That is the reason most of these units get bought. The second reason is arithmetic: a site of fifty people running on one stall loses more productive minutes to queueing than the block costs over its life.

Build and construction

The shell is reinforced HDPE with a UV-stabilised exterior, and that specification is doing real work in South African conditions. A painted steel unit standing in the open on the Highveld is rust within a season and a fading, chalking mess within two. HDPE does not corrode, does not need painting, and takes a knock from a reversing bakkie by deforming rather than splitting. The base is heavy-duty reinforced with a non-slip surface. Roof is a triple panel with an individual vent over each stall. Doors swing outward on stainless steel hinges, each with an interior thumb-turn lock and a vacant or engaged indicator on the outside.

• Three fully independent stalls — each with its own tank, drain valve, vent and dosing, so servicing one does not take the block out of use.
• 230 litre holding tank per stall, 690 litres total — sized so a stall that gets used harder than its neighbours can be emptied on its own schedule.
• Dry units, no water supply required — the block drops anywhere there is flat ground, which is most of what a site or a farm event actually offers.
• Independent rear drain valves — servicing is done from outside without opening a door, which matters when a tanker crew is working through several units.
• Chemical dosing per tank — odour control is per stall, so one heavily used tank does not overwhelm the whole block.
• Vacant and engaged indicators — small detail, but it is what stops people trying doors and stops the queue forming in the wrong place.
• Skid or trailer mount — skid-mounted for a unit that stays put, trailer-mounted if one person needs to reposition it with a bakkie.

Construction and civil sites, mining contractor camps, agricultural events and auctions, sports fixtures, music and food festivals, municipal deployments at taxi ranks and public gatherings, and film and television production units. Hire companies buy them because the per-stall independence keeps utilisation high across a mixed booking calendar.

Compliance and legal

The Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Construction Regulations require an employer to provide adequate sanitary facilities for people on site, with the ratio driven by headcount. Confirm the current required ratio with your health and safety officer, because it is the number an inspector will apply and it is not something we will guess at for you here. Chemical waste must be disposed of through a licensed service provider rather than to ground or to stormwater.
