Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information TRAILERS SA collects, why we collect it, how long we keep it and what you can require us to do with it, under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.

1. Who is responsible

The responsible party is TRAILERS SA, Company Registration Number 2015/077106/07, VAT Number 4060277664, of 1 Dwars St, Hartswater, 8570, Northern Cape, South Africa. Privacy queries go to sales@trailerssa.co.za.

2. What we collect

• Contact details you give us: name, phone number, email address, town, and company name where you buy in a business name.
• Enquiry content: what you are carrying, your tow vehicle, your timeline, and anything else you choose to send us.
• Order and delivery information: delivery address, order history, invoice records.
• Payment information: proof of payment and reference. Card details are handled by the payment provider and are not stored by us.
• Business verification details where applicable: registration number and VAT number.
• Website usage data: pages visited, approximate location, device and browser, collected through analytics.

3. Why we process it

To quote, to build and deliver what you ordered, to invoice you and meet our tax obligations, to handle warranty claims and repairs, to answer your questions, and to improve the website. We process on the basis of performing a contract with you, complying with the law, and our legitimate business interests.

4. Marketing

We will not add you to a marketing list simply because you asked for a quote. Direct marketing happens only where you have opted in, or where you are an existing customer and the message relates to something similar to what you bought, and every message carries an unsubscribe route.

5. Who we share it with

Only where it is necessary: transport contractors who deliver your trailer, our bank and payment providers, our accountants and auditors, our website and hosting providers, and any authority we are legally obliged to disclose to. We do not sell personal information. Ever.

6. Cross-border transfer

Some service providers, including website hosting and analytics, may process data outside South Africa. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure comparable protection, as POPIA section 72 requires.

7. How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not become orders are kept for a reasonable period so we can follow up, then deleted. Order, invoice and tax records are kept for five years as South African tax law requires. Warranty and build records are kept for the life of the warranty and a reasonable period beyond, because a claim needs them.

8. Security

The website runs over HTTPS. Access to customer records is limited to staff who need it. We keep our systems patched. No system is perfect, and if a breach affects your personal information we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA section 22 requires.

9. Your rights

• Ask what personal information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct or delete information that is wrong, misleading or no longer needed.
• Object to processing on reasonable grounds.
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
• Complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

Send any of those requests to sales@trailerssa.co.za. We will respond within a reasonable time and may ask you to verify your identity first, which protects you rather than us.

10. Cookies

This website uses cookies that are necessary for it to work, including cart and checkout function, and analytics cookies that tell us which pages are useful. You can block or delete cookies in your browser, though the shop will not work properly without the necessary ones.

11. Children

This site is aimed at adults buying commercial and agricultural equipment. We do not knowingly collect personal information about children.

12. Changes

We may update this policy. The current version is the one on this page.
