The load, the tow vehicle and the town. That is usually enough for a specification and a price the same working day.

Why buyers quote with us

  • A real specification, in writingDeck size, GVM, axle and braking setup, wheel size, coupler rating and the road equipment fitted. Not a number on its own.
  • Free delivery over R20,000Anywhere in South Africa with code TSA26. Collection from Hartswater is free on any order.
  • VAT-inclusive pricingEvery figure includes VAT at 15 percent. A full tax invoice with VAT No 4060277664 is issued on payment.
  • Spares and repairs after the saleParts held at the works and a workshop that services any make, not only what we built.

What to send with your enquiry

Five things turn an enquiry into a quote without a round of questions in between.

  1. The load. What goes on the deck, and specifically the heaviest thing that will ever go on it.
  2. The mass in kilograms. Rough is fine. It decides braked or non-braked and single or tandem axle, and it is the number that keeps you legal.
  3. The tow vehicle. Make, model and year, plus the tow bar rating if you know it.
  4. Your town. It sets the delivery arrangement and the timing.
  5. Your timeline. Off the floor this week, or a custom build for next season.

What comes back

A written quote listing the full specification, the price including VAT, the delivery arrangement and, for a custom build, a build date. Stock units are allocated on payment. Custom builds go onto the workshop schedule.

If you already know which model you want, browse the range first and quote the name. If you are not sure what size you need, the FAQ covers GVM, tare, licence codes and towing capacity in plain terms, and the delivery page explains how the free-delivery threshold works.

How we price

The price of a trailer is driven by four things: the deck size, the gross vehicle mass, whether it is braked, and what the body is made of. Deck size sets the steel. GVM sets the chassis gauge and the axle. Braking adds an axle assembly and a coupler. The body, whether that is drop sides, a stock crate, a Chromadek box or a tank, is often the largest single line.

Every figure we quote includes VAT at 15 percent. There is no separate documentation fee, no handling fee and no delivery charge on an order over R20,000. What is on the quote is what you pay.

Custom builds

If the range does not have what you need, describe the job and we will engineer around it. Custom work goes through the same drawing, cutting, welding and finishing process as a catalogue unit, and it carries the same road equipment as standard.

A custom quote takes longer than a stock quote because somebody has to work out the chassis and the axle rating before a number exists. Expect a conversation rather than an instant reply, and expect to be asked about the duty cycle: a trailer that gets loaded twice a year is not the same build as one that gets loaded twice a day.

Where specifications go wrong

Four mistakes account for most of the trailers that end up being the wrong trailer.

  • Buying on deck size alone. A 3 metre deck rated at 750 kg and a 3 metre deck rated at 1,500 kg look identical in a photograph and are not the same trailer.
  • Forgetting tare. The payload is GVM minus the weight of the empty trailer. Buy on payload, not on GVM.
  • Ignoring the tow vehicle. The manufacturer’s braked and unbraked towing capacity and the tow bar rating both cap what you can legally pull, whatever the trailer is rated at.
  • Skipping brakes to save money. If the trailer will regularly run near its rating, or you tow on passes and gravel, brakes are not the place to economise.
