Compact Food Trailers

A compact food trailer is a single-axle enclosed kitchen with insulated food-grade panelling, a rear service door and full LED lighting inside and out. Bodies run from 3.0 x 1.5 x 2.0 m to 2.0 x 4.0 x 2.1 m on a 1.5 tonne axle with a braked global coupler.

This is the unit most food businesses actually start with. One or two people working, one service point, a menu that does not need a full commercial line behind it. Coffee, boerie rolls, burgers, pancakes, ice cream. It hitches to a bakkie, it repositions between a market on Saturday and an office park on Wednesday, and it does not need a driver with a heavy licence.

The body is built on a mild steel chassis with insulated food-grade panelling, which does two jobs. It keeps the interior workable when the trailer has been standing in the sun since morning, and it gives you a surface that cleans down to a standard an inspector will accept.

Practical details decide whether a unit is pleasant to trade from. Jockey stands front and rear mean the trailer sets up level on uneven ground rather than sloping toward the door. A rear service door separate from the serving hatch means stock and gas go in without going past customers. LED lighting inside and out means you can still trade after dark and people can read the menu.

Running gear is a 1.5 tonne non-braked axle on 14 inch white mags with a braked global coupler.

Three body sizes are available, and the right one depends less on the menu than on how many people work inside at once. For a full production kitchen, the large twin-axle range is the correct starting point.
