About this trailer
Six compartments on one non-braked axle, with a choice of four factory fitments, is the short description of the 6 Dog Trailer. The base trailer covers most buyers. From there you can add jerrycan holders on the A-frame, a steel roofrack, or a roofrack together with a luggage nosecone. TRAILERS SA is a retailer, not the factory, so every figure below is the published builder figure for this model.

Towing, payload and the 750 kg line
GVM is 700 kg and tare is 300 kg, so the published payload is 400 kg. Because GVM stays below 750 kg the trailer is not required to carry brakes, which keeps the tow simple and the maintenance list short. Remember that anything you bolt on or load onto the roofrack comes out of that 400 kg, so a full nosecone and two jerrycans of fuel eat into it quickly. The rules that govern towing, licensing and trailer mass are in the National Road Traffic Act.
Where it sits between the four and eight dog models
Against the 4 Dog Trailer, this one is 740 mm longer in the body, 50 mm wider inside and 80 kg heavier empty, and it gives you two extra compartments for the same 700 kg GVM. The trade off is payload: 400 kg here against 480 kg on the shorter trailer. If you run a larger pack, or you want the roofrack and nosecone options, this is the model that carries them. The eight dog model is the next step up and moves to a braked axle.
Who runs a six dog box
Bird shooters with a full team of pointers, farmers running a hunting pack, and kennels that transport in numbers are the buyers we see most. The jerrycan fitment tends to go to people who travel far from a filling station, and the roofrack earns its place when kennels, feed and camping kit have to travel with the dogs. The rest of the range is on the dog trailers category page.
Living with the trailer
Six mesh floor holes mean the whole box can be washed down in one go. Sliding vents on each door let you tune airflow per compartment rather than for the trailer as a whole, which helps when one dog runs hot and another does not. If you order without roof vents the builder can supply it that way. Galvanised sheet steel and cast alloy hinges are the parts that decide how the trailer looks in five years, so rinse the salt and mud off after a trip.
Buying, delivery and warranty
Every fitment on this page clears the R20 000 mark, so delivery is free to any address in South Africa. The delivery page explains the handover. Collection from Hartswater remains open to anyone who prefers to inspect first. The builder warranty applies to the trailer, and we administer it on your behalf, with the cover set out on the warranty page. Questions about this trailer
What are the four fitments on the 6 Dog Trailer?
Base, jerrycan holders, roofrack, and roofrack with a luggage nosecone. Select the one you want above and the price updates.
How big is the roofrack?
The steel roof rack measures 2124 x 999 x 380 mm and is built with clearance so the roof vents can still open.
Does it have brakes?
No. GVM is published at 700 kg, below the 750 kg point where South African law requires trailer brakes.
Can it be supplied without roof vents?
Yes. The builder lists a no roof vent option for this model. Ask us to note it on the order.
How much can I load?
Published payload is 400 kg. Fuel in the jerrycans and anything on the roofrack counts towards that figure.
