Car Trailers

A car trailer is a low-sided, ribbed-deck trailer with ramps, built to load and carry a vehicle. We stock 4 m, 5 m and 6 m decks at 2.0 m wide, on braked single and tandem axles with slide-out or drop-down ramps and 14 inch 195C tyres.

Three things decide whether a car trailer is any good: the loading angle, the deck stiffness and the braking.

Loading angle is set by ramp length and deck height. Sides drop to 250 mm so nothing catches a sill, a door or a mirror. Slide-out ramps stow under the deck and are the quicker option when you are working alone. Drop-down ramps give a longer, shallower run, which is what a low car or a non-running vehicle needs.

Deck stiffness matters because a vehicle puts its entire mass on four small contact patches rather than spreading it. Our decks are ribbed chassis plate, and the heavy-duty 5 m runs a ribbed frame cover with 2 mm plate. A deck that flexes under a wheel will keep flexing until something cracks.

Braking is fitted from the smallest model. The 4 m single-axle trailer runs an 1,800 kg braked axle on 10-blade leaf springs with a two-tonne braked coupler. The 5 m and 6 m tandem trailers run twin braked axles, and the heavy-duty 5 m carries twin 1,800 kg braked axles with a coupler rated up to three tonnes.

All models carry a side spare-wheel bracket, because a puncture with a car on the deck is not a problem you improvise your way out of on the N12.

Two build tiers appear here, which explains the price spread between similar decks. The cheaper units are lighter-duty builds for occasional moves. The dearer ones come from a nationally distributed range that publishes tare, GVM and payload, so you can confirm a car fits the rating before you load it.
