GTE 7 Luggage Trailer

Three hundred extra millimetres of floor is the whole argument for the GTE 7 luggage trailer over its six foot sibling. Everything else, from the 700 kg gross vehicle mass to the six blade springs, carries straight across, and TRAILERS SA lists both so you can choose on load length rather than on brochure copy.

What the GTE 7 luggage trailer is built to carry

The body measures 2080 mm long by 1180 mm wide inside with 560 mm sides, plus a 620 mm nosecone ahead of it. Overall the trailer is 3260 mm long and 1550 mm wide, 1125 mm high and set 250 mm off the ground. That extra length matters more often than buyers expect: fishing rods, two metre timber, a folded pop up gazebo, a stretcher bed or an inflatable boat all fit flat instead of at an angle. Tare rises to 200 kg, so the legal payload settles at 500 kg, which is still more load than most light passenger cars are rated to pull.

Like the six foot model this is a single package rather than a base unit with a fitment list, which is why one price covers it and there is no configuration to choose. Anything bolted on afterwards, a roofrack or a bicycle carrier for instance, is taken out of the 500 kg payload and not added on top of the rating, so budget roughly 30 to 40 kg of lost load for a rack before you plan a long trip.

Payload, mass and staying road legal

Five hundred kilograms of payload is a lot behind a light vehicle, and the limit you hit first is usually the car rather than the trailer. Braking is not fitted and is not needed here, since the requirement to brake starts above 750 kg and this trailer is rated at 700 kg fully loaded. Check the towing mass stamped on your own vehicle before you fill the body, keep the heaviest items over the axle rather than at the tail, and read the requirements in the National Road Traffic Act rather than relying on what someone told you at a campsite.

Where the GTE 7 sits in the range

Against the GTE 6 luggage trailer the trade is straightforward: 300 mm more floor for 20 kg more tare and 20 kg less payload. Against the Glider it is a far bigger trailer with a nosecone and a higher rating.
