About this trailer
Small tow vehicles and modest budgets are what the Glider luggage trailer answers. It is the entry point into the closed body range TRAILERS SA carries from our yard in Hartswater, and at 160 kg tare against a 500 kg gross vehicle mass it leaves a genuinely useful 340 kg for whatever you are moving.
What the Glider luggage trailer is built to carry
The body measures 1360 mm long by 1365 mm wide inside and the sides stand 620 mm. That near square shape suits bulky but light cargo far better than a long narrow deck does: two large camping crates side by side, a folded gazebo, tool bags, market stock, or the overflow that will not fit in a hatchback boot. Overall the trailer runs 2340 mm long and 1565 mm wide with 1060 mm of height, so it parks in a standard garage bay and reverses without the tail swing of a seven foot unit. Ground clearance is 260 mm.

The two configurations we list
- New Glider, the specification detailed above, 160 kg tare and 340 kg payload.
- Glider 14 inch, listed and priced by the builder but supplied with no published specification block at all.
We publish the 14 inch configuration because it is a real product with a real price, but we will not fill the gap with figures we cannot source. Venter does not publish a spec block for the Glider 14 inch: no tare, no gross vehicle mass, no body dimensions, no axle rating. Anyone who quotes you those numbers for it is guessing. Choose that option only if you already know from the builder what the larger wheel and tyre package changes, or ask us and we will put the question to the factory in writing before you commit.
Payload, mass and staying road legal
At 500 kg gross vehicle mass this trailer sits well inside the unbraked bracket. It has no brakes fitted and does not need them, because a trailer must be braked once it goes above 750 kg and this one stays under that even fully loaded. Load to the 340 kg payload and no further, remembering that anything bolted to the trailer comes off the payload rather than out of thin air. Your tow vehicle has its own rated towing mass, so check its plate as well. The governing document is the National Road Traffic Act, and licence categories are a question for the Act and your testing station rather than for us.
Where it sits against its stablemates
This is the smallest closed body trailer in the range. Move up to the GTE 6 luggage trailer and you gain a 1780 mm body, a nosecone, a 700 kg gross vehicle mass and 6 blade springs for 20 kg more tare. Move up again to the Voyager and you gain 14 inch wheels, a much deeper body and a 750 kg rating. If your load is light and awkward rather than heavy, this is the cheaper and easier answer. The full line up sits on our single axle closed body trailers page.
Who tows one
- Households with a small hatchback or sedan that needs occasional load space.
- Market and craft traders moving stock, tables and banners to a weekend stand.
- Smallholders running feed, fencing offcuts and hand tools between gate and shed.
- First time buyers who want a lockable box rather than a roof bag.
- Anyone who needs a closed trailer that fits inside a normal garage.
What we will not guess
We are a retailer, not the manufacturer. We quote the builder specification as published, and we say so plainly when a figure is missing, as it is for the 14 inch configuration. Mass also shifts with fitments, so treat the tare above as the figure for the standard unit and ask us before you plan a load right up against the limit.
Delivery, warranty and ordering
Both configurations clear R20 000, so delivery is free, and you are welcome to collect from Hartswater instead if you would rather inspect the trailer before you hitch up. Terms sit on our delivery page. The trailer carries the builder warranty, which we administer on your behalf, so a fault comes to us and we take it up with the factory for you. Those terms are set out on the warranty page. If you want the 14 inch configuration confirmed in writing, or a price on more than one unit, send it through the request a quote form.

Questions about this trailer
What is the payload of the Glider luggage trailer?
The New Glider configuration is rated at 500 kg gross vehicle mass with a 160 kg tare, which leaves 340 kg of payload. Any accessory you add is taken out of that 340 kg.
Does the Glider have brakes?
No. It is a non braked single axle trailer and it does not need brakes, because its 500 kg gross vehicle mass sits below the 750 kg threshold at which braking becomes compulsory.
Why are there no specifications for the Glider 14 inch?
The builder publishes a price for that configuration but no specification block for it at all. Rather than invent figures we have left them blank. Ask us and we will get written confirmation from the factory.
Will it fit in a normal garage?
Overall it is 2340 mm long, 1565 mm wide and 1060 mm high, which fits a standard single garage bay with room to walk around the drawbar.
Do you deliver to my town?
Both configurations are above R20 000, so delivery is free on our delivery runs. You can also collect from our yard in Hartswater in the Northern Cape.
