About this trailer
Furniture moves badly on an open utility deck. It slides, it chafes and it catches the wind. The 3 m furniture trailer answers all three with a 3 000 mm floor, 760 mm sides, a front rail and lashing lugs down both body sides. TRAILERS SA supplies it from Hartswater in the two builds the manufacturer publishes, a single axle version and a tandem axle version, both braked and both plated for a 1 000 kg payload.
How the 3 m furniture trailer is put together
Body and floor are 1.6 mm corrosion resistant electro-galvanised sheet steel, and the floor is pressed into a U shape so the panel carries load rather than merely covering the chassis. Ground clearance is 220 mm on both builds and the inside width is 1 720 mm, enough to lay a double bed base flat.
- 3 000 mm body length, 1 720 mm inside width
- 760 mm side height with a front rail
- 1.6 mm electro-galvanised body and floor
- U-shaped floor pressing for rigidity
- Lashing lugs along both body sides
- Run-in brakes on both published builds
- Spare wheel included, sized to the build
Single axle or tandem axle
The manufacturer lists these as two separate trailers rather than one trailer with an option box, and the running gear really is different. The single axle build carries one 1 600 kg axle on a 1 530 mm centre, ten blade leaf springs and 185 x 14 inch wheels. The tandem build carries two 1 100 kg rubber sprung Rubax axles on a 1 590 mm centre and steps down to 165 x 13 inch wheels, which is why overall height falls from 1 620 mm to 1 510 mm.
Check the payload row before assuming a second axle buys capacity. Both builds publish exactly 1 000 kg. What the tandem adds is ride and stability rather than load: four contact patches instead of two, less pitching fed back into the tow hitch on gravel, and a trailer that stays rolling if one tyre fails.

Payload, GVM and licensing
Both builds sit above the 750 kg gross figure at which a trailer must be braked, which is why both publish run-in brakes. The single axle version is plated at 1 420 kg GVM against a 420 kg tare, the tandem at 1 480 kg against 480 kg, leaving the same 1 000 kg for the load either way. Braking requirements, towing mass limits and licence classes are set by the National Road Traffic Act and its regulations.
Your tow vehicle matters just as much. Fully loaded, this trailer weighs 1 420 to 1 480 kg depending on the build, and many light passenger cars are not rated to pull that. The National Road Traffic Act regulations govern the trailer; the vehicle handbook governs the car, and the lower figure is the one that counts.
Where it sits in the furniture range
The longer 3.6 m furniture removal trailer keeps the same 760 mm sides and the same 1 000 kg payload but stretches the floor to 3 595 mm and opens the inside width to 1 920 mm, so it is the one for wardrobes and long sofas. Below this model sits the Mini Furniture Trailer, an unbraked 750 kg unit with 240 mm sides suited to garden loads rather than a house move. The furniture trailers category lists them side by side.
Why this costs more than a light open trailer
A budget utility trailer is cheaper because it is a lighter machine. The money here buys a published tare and GVM you can hold up at a weighbridge, a braked axle rated 1 600 kg or a pair rated 1 100 kg each, ten blade springs or rubber suspension, galvanised body and floor panels, and a spare wheel in the price. None of that shows on a showroom floor and all of it shows after two years of loaded kilometres.
Delivery, warranty and ordering
Orders over R20 000 ship free, so delivery is included on both builds, and you are welcome to collect from our yard in Hartswater instead. TRAILERS SA is a retailer, not the manufacturer: the cover on this trailer is the builder warranty, which we administer on your behalf, and the terms sit on our warranty page. Unsure which axle configuration suits your route, send the load and the tow vehicle through the request a quote form and we will put the published figures in writing.

Questions about this trailer
Does the tandem axle build carry more than the single axle build?
No. Both builds publish a 1 000 kg payload. The tandem is plated at a higher GVM only because it is 60 kg heavier empty. The second axle buys ride quality, stability and a spare contact patch, not extra capacity.
Is the 3 m furniture trailer braked?
Yes. Both published builds carry run-in brakes, which is what the National Road Traffic Act regulations require above 750 kg gross. Confirm the braking configuration in writing with us before you order.
Why do the two builds run different wheels?
The single axle version runs 185 x 14 inch on a 1 600 kg axle and the tandem runs 165 x 13 inch on two 1 100 kg Rubax axles. The spare wheel supplied matches the build: 195 x 14 inch and 165 x 13 inch respectively.
What will one load hold?
The floor is 3 000 mm long and 1 720 mm wide inside with 760 mm sides, which takes a double bed base flat rather than on edge. We do not publish a cubic capacity, so measure your bulkiest item against those figures.
Who handles a warranty claim?
TRAILERS SA is a retailer. The cover is the builder warranty, which we administer on your behalf: you deal with us in Hartswater and we take it up with the manufacturer.
