Utility & Cargo Trailers

Utility and cargo trailers are open-deck trailers with drop sides, built to carry general loads behind a bakkie or LDV. Our range runs from 2 m to 4 m decks, non-braked at 750 kg through to twin braked axles rated to 3,000 kg GVM.

This is the section most South African buyers start in, and the choice comes down to three numbers: how long the deck is, whether the axle is braked, and how many axles there are.

Non-braked trailers stay inside the 750 kg limit, which keeps them legal to tow without a trailer braking system and keeps the price down. Decks of 2 m and 2.45 m cover garden refuse, building rubble, a fridge, a weekend’s luggage. The 3 m non-braked deck is the single most-bought size in the country, and it is the one we sell most of.

Braked trailers start where the load does. A 1,500 kg braked square axle with an overrun coupler changes how the trailer behaves under load on a downhill, and once you are regularly carrying more than half a tonne it stops being optional. Above that, twin braked axles take you to 3,000 kg GVM on a 100 x 50 mm chassis, which is the specification for anyone moving pallets, feed, timber or plant.

Every deck in this range is laid with 2.5 mm hot-rolled steel over U-channel, with 50 x 50 mm square-tube drop sides, road-legal LED lamps, a seven-pin plug and a jockey stand. Mesh and Flatex side extensions are available where the load is bulky but light, and a fitted PVC cover is available where it has to stay dry.

Trailers used mainly to carry a vehicle belong in car and vehicle trailers, and trailers that carry animals belong in livestock trailers, both of which are built differently from the deck up.
