3 Ton Double Axle Cattle Trailer 4.0m

The 3 ton cattle trailer is the heavy-duty step in the tandem range, a 4.0 m by 1.8 m unit plated at 3 000 kg gross for operations moving bigger animals or fuller loads. It keeps the full-height stock rails and wash-out grid floor of the lighter models but stiffens the running gear and framing to carry the extra mass.

What the 3 ton cattle trailer is built for

Seven hundred kilograms of extra GVM over the 2.3 ton unit is what separates a general farm trailer from one built for a serious herd. The chassis runs 76 x 38 x 5 mm steel open channel with a heavier 100 x 50 x 6 mm A-frame taking the coupling loads, so the nose does not flex under a full, shifting load. On the same 4.0 m by 1.8 m deck as the lighter model, the higher plating means you can load closer to the deck size rather than running out of GVM first.

Gates, floor and animal handling

Handling is the strong point. A swing-and-slide gate hangs from above on bearings at the rear, a second sits in the middle to split the load into two pens, and a sliding gate on the right-hand side gives a third loading and escape point. The floor is a 2.0 mm lipped-channel deck with drain strips and an M12 removable grid, so effluent runs off and the deck lifts out for washing. Wheels are mounted outside the body to keep the interior at its full 1.8 m width, and rails and headboard stand 1.8 m with the first 300 mm plated.

Payload, GVM and licensing

Plated at 3 000 kg gross, this trailer needs a tow vehicle with real braked towing capacity and, for most drivers, an EB licence code to cover the combination. The supplier does not publish a dependable tare, so we confirm the empty mass and the payload in writing before you order rather than print a number we cannot verify. Where it sits in the range

This is the middle of the heavy end. Below it, the 2.3 ton 4.0 m unit shares the deck but plates lower and carries less. Above it, the 3.5 ton version steps the GVM and running gear up again for the heaviest loads. All three sit in the tandem-axle livestock range, where the GVMs can be compared directly against what you actually carry.
