About this trailer

What does the upgrade actually add? On this upgraded cattle trailer the 3.0m by 1.8m deck and the 2300kg gross mass stay the same, but the gates, floor and running gear all step up for operators who load and unload every week. Trailers SA prices and supports the build from Hartswater as your livestock trailer retailer, not as the manufacturer.

What The Upgraded Cattle Trailer Adds

Compared with the base 3.0m model, this version gains a middle swing and sliding gate and a right-hand side gate that hang from above on bearings, plus a loading ramp on the right that can also be used at the back. The floor gains an M12 removable grid, and three extra length supports run along the top to stiffen the body under a shifting load.

Chassis And Frame

The chassis and A-frame are both 76mm by 38mm by 5mm open channel in a ladder-frame layout, finished in painted 2K Duco. As with the whole range, this is a painted steel build rather than a galvanised one, so an occasional wash and touch-up keeps the finish sound in high-lime farming districts.

Deck, Gates And Loading

The 2.0mm lipped-channel floor keeps its drain strips and adds the removable M12 grid for easier cleaning between loads. The 1.8m headboard and rails have their first 300mm closed with plate on a 50mm square-tube frame. With gates at the back, in the middle and on the side, you can split a load or unload part of a group without moving the rest.

Axles, Brakes And Running Gear

Suspension moves up to 1020mm 8-blade heavy-duty leaf springs on two 1600kg axles, matched to a 2700kg coupler and 14 inch wheels with an A-frame spare. A larger 60mm jockey wheel eases hitching, and a 12V LED harness handles lighting. Mesh sides, axle upgrades and the white, black, green or brown colour options remain available on request.

Payload, GVM And Licensing

The upgrade does not change the 2300kg gross vehicle mass, so the combined weight of trailer and animals must stay within that limit. It is well over 750kg and therefore braked by law, and the drawing vehicle must be rated for the loaded mass. Confirm your licence code and tow rating before travelling, and use our request a quote page if you want help matching trailer to vehicle.

How This Model Compares

If you do not need the extra gates and ramp, the base 3.0m cattle trailer saves money on the same platform. For more head, the 4.0m and 3 ton builds in our tandem axle livestock range add deck length and axle rating. This upgraded 3.0m model sits in the middle for weekly handlers.

Livestock Transport And Road Duties

Hauling live animals carries welfare and load-securing duties that fall on the driver, from stocking density to secure gates and sensible speeds. Instead of citing specific clauses, we direct you to the National Road Traffic Act for the current rules. Reading the National Road Traffic Act alongside animal welfare guidance is sensible before any long haul.

Delivery, Warranty And Ordering

Free delivery applies on orders over R20 000, and collection from our Hartswater yard is always welcome. Our delivery page sets out the options in full. The builder warranty, which we administer on your behalf, is explained on our warranty page. To order the upgraded cattle trailer or discuss gate layouts, send your details for a firm price and availability.

Questions about this trailer

What is the difference between the base and upgraded 3.0m cattle trailers?

The upgraded model keeps the 2300kg GVM and 3.0m by 1.8m deck but adds middle and side gates on bearings, a loading ramp, three top supports, a removable M12 floor grid and 8-blade HD leaf-spring axles.

Does the upgrade change the carrying capacity?

No. Both share a 2300kg gross vehicle mass. The upgrade improves handling, loading and durability rather than payload. Tare is confirmed on order so you know the exact usable load.

How do the extra gates help?

Gates at the back, middle and side let you split a group or unload part of a load without disturbing the rest, which is useful when drafting or offloading in stages.

Is a loading ramp included?

Yes. A ramp on the right-hand side is fitted and can also be used at the back, making it easier to load animals that are reluctant to step up.

Can I still add mesh sides and colours?

Mesh sides, axle upgrades and white, black, green or brown paint remain available on request. Tell us your preferences and we will include them in your quote.

Need a trailer quote?

Tell us the load, the tow vehicle and the town. We come back with a spec and a price.
