About this trailer

Measure the longest item you own before you choose between the two Voyagers. The Voyager 7 ft luggage trailer takes the same deep galvanised body, the same 14 inch running gear and the same 750 kg rating as the six foot model, and stretches the floor to 2105 mm. TRAILERS SA lists it in five configurations.

What the Voyager 7 ft luggage trailer is built to carry

Inside, the box runs 2105 mm long by 1135 mm wide with 640 mm sides, and the builder describes the body as more than 500 mm deep. A 650 mm nosecone sits ahead of it. The rear tailgate opening is published at 500 mm high by 620 mm wide. Overall the trailer is 3055 mm long, 1575 mm wide and 1150 mm high on the base build, with 300 mm of clearance to the bottom of the axle. Depth plus length is the combination that suits long camping trips, extended family loads and gear that has to travel flat.

The five configurations we list

  • Base trailer, 280 kg tare, overall height 1150 mm.
  • Five way aluminium roofrack, published at 280 kg tare, overall height 1250 mm.
  • Steel roofrack, published at 280 kg tare, overall height 1350 mm with 820 mm of side height.
  • Cycle rack, published at 280 kg tare, overall height 1255 mm.
  • Extension frame, priced by the builder but published with no specification block at all.

The published tare is 280 kg on the base trailer and on all three racked builds, so on the builder figures the 470 kg legal payload does not move when you add a rack. Racks are not weightless, so if you plan to run near the rating, weigh the loaded trailer at a bridge rather than trusting the brochure. For the extension frame there is no published tare, gross vehicle mass or dimension of any kind, and we have left those lines blank rather than estimate them.

Payload, mass and staying road legal

Seven hundred and fifty kilograms is not an arbitrary number. It is the mass above which a trailer is required to be braked, and this model is rated right at it rather than above it. Subtract the 280 kg tare and you have 470 kg of legal load. The builder does not publish a brakes line for the Voyager range, so ask us to confirm the arrangement in writing if you intend to load to the rating. The governing text is the National Road Traffic Act, and licence classes are a matter for the Act and your testing station, not for a dealer.

Seven foot or six foot

The Voyager 6 ft luggage trailer gives away 300 mm of floor and nothing else: identical tare, identical gross vehicle mass, identical axle, springs and wheels, and a lower price. If everything you carry fits in 1805 mm, buy the shorter one. If it does not, the seven foot body removes the problem permanently. Both, with the rest of the family, appear on our single axle closed body trailers page.

Carried on every configuration

  • Zinc galvanised sheet steel body of more than 500 mm depth.
  • Nosecone of 650 mm for extra enclosed storage.
  • Gas assisted flip up lid with a wide rear tailgate.
  • Two fold away extension legs for stability on uneven ground.
  • Eight internal ring holders for securing the load.
  • Spare wheel, adjustable jockey wheel and multi function LED lighting.

What the builder does not publish

As a retailer we quote the factory specification and nothing else. Where that specification is silent, as it is on the extension frame build and on the effect a rack has on real tare, we say so on the page rather than filling the gap. Put the question to us and we will get it answered in writing by the factory.

Delivery, warranty and ordering

All five configurations clear R20 000, so delivery is free on our runs, and you are welcome to collect from Hartswater and inspect before you hitch up. The terms are on our delivery page. The trailer carries the builder warranty, which we administer on your behalf, so faults come to us and we deal with the factory for you. Cover is described on the warranty page. For a written comparison across the five builds, or fleet pricing, send the request a quote form.

Questions about this trailer

What is the payload of the Voyager 7 ft luggage trailer?

Four hundred and seventy kilograms, being the 750 kg gross vehicle mass less the 280 kg published tare. The same payload is published for the racked builds.

How much bigger is it than the six foot Voyager?

Three hundred millimetres longer in the floor, 2105 mm against 1805 mm. Width, depth, tare, gross vehicle mass, axle, springs and wheels are the same on both.

Which roofrack should I choose?

The five way aluminium rack is lighter in feel and sits at 1250 mm overall height. The steel rack is the tougher option and takes overall height to 1350 mm. Both are published at the same 280 kg tare.

Why does the extension frame build have no specifications?

The builder prices it but publishes no specification block for it. Rather than guess, we have left the figures out. Ask us and we will request written confirmation from the factory.

Can I collect instead of taking delivery?

Yes. Collect from our yard in Hartswater in the Northern Cape, or take free delivery on our runs since every build is priced above R20 000.

Need a trailer quote?

Tell us the load, the tow vehicle and the town. We come back with a spec and a price.
