About this trailer
One model name, two very different trailers. The Traveller 3/4 Ton is sold as a braked closed body trailer rated at 1 150 kg GVM with a 750 kg payload, and as an unbraked build on the same 400 kg body rated at 750 kg GVM with a 350 kg payload. The tare never moves. The legal load more than doubles.
Braked closed body trailer or unbraked: the choice that defines this model
Settle this first, because nothing else on the page matters as much. Both builds share a 2 690 mm body, a 1 525 mm inside width, a 1 830 mm axle rated at 1 250 kg, ten blade springs and 195 x 14 inch wheels. What changes is the certification. With run-in brakes the trailer is plated at 1 150 kg gross and may legally carry 750 kg. Without them it is plated at 750 kg gross and may carry 350 kg, on exactly the same steel. Load 600 kg into the unbraked build and you are well over its certified mass, with an insurer entitled to ask why. If the trailer is going to work for a living, buy it braked.
Published specification for all three builds
Figures come from the builder specification sheets. Rows spanning both columns are identical across braked and unbraked.

What 750 kg of payload actually moves
A rear door 1 070 mm wide across a 1 525 mm interior takes a pallet load hand-stacked, and the braked payload covers roughly fifteen bags of cement or a two-room house move. The unbraked build at 350 kg is a different animal: camping kit, market stock, a light tool inventory. Both are covered, dry and lockable at side and rear.
Sputnik body, SLK body and the listing we cannot price
The braked trailer comes in two bodies at almost identical money, and their published figures match down to the door openings. The SLK listing additionally names a 1.6 mm galvanised floor, an aerodynamic round nose and seven floor-mounted tie-down lugs; the Sputnik listing names a galvanised heavy-duty coupler and a primer coat under white paint. Nothing further is published, and we will not manufacture a reason for the gap. The unbraked trailer is offered only in SLK form, on a five stud hub carrying the 14 inch wheel. A fourth listing exists in this family, a Sputnik 3/4 ton unbraked Special: a promotional unit with rubberised floor, interior shelf trays, a leaflet rack, a gas bottle holder and a roof awning, at 380 kg tare and 370 kg payload. No price is published for it, so it is not sold as an option here. Ask for it by name on our quote form.
GVM, braking and the road traffic rules
The braked and unbraked split is not a marketing device. In South Africa a trailer above 750 kg gross vehicle mass has to be braked, which is precisely why the same 400 kg shell is certified at 1 150 kg with run-in brakes and 750 kg without them. Your tow vehicle also has a rated towing mass, braked and unbraked, and it is the lower of the two limits that governs. The requirements sit in the National Road Traffic Act and its regulations rather than with any dealer, so read them against your own licence and vehicle handbook.
Where the 3/4 Ton sits, and what the money buys
This is the working middle of the closed body range, a clear step up from the Traveller 7: 325 mm more interior width, larger wheels and, braked, a 340 kg lift in legal payload. Compare the family on the single-axle closed body trailers archive. Against the budget range we carry at roughly half the price, the money here buys certified plated figures, a braked axle option, a ten blade leaf pack and galvanised sheet through the body.
Delivery, warranty and ordering
Order online or call us. Delivery is free on orders over R20 000 and collection from our Hartswater yard is always open, which is worth doing if you want to see the braked and unbraked units side by side. Coverage is set out on the delivery page. TRAILERS SA is a retailer, not the manufacturer: your trailer carries the builder warranty, which we administer on your behalf, and the scope is explained on the warranty page.

Questions about this trailer
What is the real difference between the braked and unbraked Traveller 3/4 Ton?
Certified mass. Both use the same 400 kg body and the same axle rating. With run-in brakes the trailer is plated at 1 150 kg GVM and 750 kg payload. Without brakes it is plated at 750 kg GVM and 350 kg payload.
Does the tare change between builds?
No. The builder publishes 400 kg tare for the braked Sputnik, the braked SLK and the unbraked 14 inch SLK alike. Only the gross rating and the resulting payload change.
Is there a difference between the Sputnik and SLK bodies?
Not in any published dimension or mass. The SLK listing names a 1.6 mm galvanised floor, a round nose and seven tie-down lugs; the Sputnik names a galvanised heavy-duty coupler and a painted finish. We ask the factory in writing rather than guessing further.
Can I buy the promotional Special version?
It exists as a builder listing at 380 kg tare and 370 kg payload, with a rubberised floor, shelf trays and an awning, but no price is published for it. We can quote it on request rather than publish a figure we cannot stand behind.
What does delivery cost?
Delivery is free on orders over R20 000 within our delivery area. Collection from Hartswater in the Northern Cape is also available at any time.
