WhatsApp about this trailerAbout this trailer
Volume is the whole argument here. The Traveller 10 Sputnik trailer stretches the closed body to 3 610 mm on a single braked axle, which is 650 mm more load floor than the Traveller 8 on the same 1 525 kg gross rating. TRAILERS SA sells it at a published 600 kg tare and 925 kg payload, ready for freight that fills a trailer long before it fills a weighbridge.
Why the Traveller 10 Sputnik trailer is about space, not capacity
Read the two headline numbers together and the design intent is clear. Gross vehicle mass stays at 1 525 kg, exactly as on the shorter Traveller 8, while tare rises 40 kg to carry the longer body. Published payload therefore drops slightly, from 965 kg to 925 kg. You are buying cubic metres, not kilograms. For bulky and light freight, furniture, packaging, exhibition kit, insulation, bagged product, that is the right trade. For dense loads such as cement, tiles or castings, the shorter trailer carries marginally more.

Payload, GVM and braking
At 1 525 kg gross the trailer sits well above the 750 kg threshold at which an unbraked trailer stops being legal in South Africa, and the builder answers that with run-in brakes on an axle rated at 1 800 kg. Two figures then govern what you may actually tow: the trailer rating and your vehicle braked towing limit, whichever is lower. Both are worth confirming in writing before a long haul. Requirements for towing mass, braking and driver licensing are set out in the National Road Traffic Act and its regulations, not by a trailer dealer.
Loading a 3 610 mm body
The rear door measures 1 330 by 1 050 mm and the side door 1 280 by 730 mm, the widest side opening in the single-axle Traveller range. That side access matters on a body this long, because reaching freight stacked at the nose from the tail alone means unloading half the trailer. Five sprung recessed floor rings hold the load, and at 4 540 mm overall you should plan your turning circle and gate widths before the first trip.
Where it sits in the range
Directly above the Traveller 8 Sputnik on length while matching it on gross mass, and directly below the tandem version, which lifts gross mass to 1 740 kg on two Rubax axles. If your loads are heavy rather than bulky, look at the tandem. The single-axle family is listed on the single-axle closed body trailers archive.
Against the budget range
We also stock closed body trailers at roughly half this money, and they earn their place on lighter, occasional work. The premium here is spent where it shows over years: an 1 800 kg rated braked axle, a twelve blade leaf pack, galvanised sheet through the body and roof, six stud hubs, and certified tare and GVM figures that stand up at a weighbridge instead of an estimate on an invoice.
Delivery, warranty and ordering
Order online or speak to the yard first. Delivery is free on orders over R20 000 and collection from Hartswater in the Northern Cape is always available, which many buyers of a trailer this long prefer. Terms are on the delivery page. TRAILERS SA is a retailer rather than the manufacturer, so your trailer carries the builder warranty, which we administer on your behalf, and the cover is set out on the warranty page. Questions about this trailer
Why does the Traveller 10 carry less than the Traveller 8?
Both are plated at 1 525 kg GVM, but the longer body raises tare from 560 kg to 600 kg, so published payload falls from 965 kg to 925 kg. The 10 buys you load space, not extra mass.
Is it braked?
Yes. The builder publishes run-in brakes on an axle rated at 1 800 kg, which is required at this gross vehicle mass under South African road traffic law.
How long is it on the road?
Overall length is 4 540 mm and overall width 2 045 mm. Check gate widths, driveway turning space and your parking bay before ordering.
How many tie-down points are there?
Five sprung floor-recessed heavy-duty ring holders, plus two extending rear support legs for levelling when parked.
Can I collect instead of taking delivery?
Yes. Collection from our Hartswater yard is always available, and delivery is free on orders over R20 000 within our delivery area.
