WhatsApp about this trailerAbout this trailer
The Savuti XLX off road trailer is the XL with the camp already built into it: a water tank, a two-hob gas cooker, a gas bottle holder, a collapsible wash-up table and a rooftop tent, fitted from new. It weighs 400 kg empty against the 380 kg of a bare XL, and licences at the same 750 kg gross.
What the Savuti XLX off road trailer includes
Buying a trailer and then fitting it out is how most off-road setups happen, and it is usually the more expensive route by the time the kitchen slide, the tank and the brackets are paid for and mounted. The XLX is the factory answer to that. The kitchen runs a two-hob gas cooker with a bottle holder alongside it, the wash-up table folds away against the body on stainless brackets, and the water tank fills through a capped filler rather than a loose jerry can.
Everything else is the XL underneath: a zinc-galvanised steel body powder coated in beige, 590 mm deep, on an 8-blade 36 inch leaf pack and a 1 250 kg axle, with 300 mm of clearance to the bottom of the axle and 205 by 14 inch tyres. The roof rack carries the tent and keeps a compartment free for the washing table, and four extension legs level the trailer where the ground will not.

Payload is the number to plan around
350 kg is what the XLX will legally take, and a full water tank is a meaningful part of that at a kilogram per litre. It is the honest trade in a fully fitted 750 kg trailer: the kitchen, tank and tent are already counted in the 400 kg tare, so what remains is food, clothing, bedding, a fridge and recovery gear rather than an open-ended load. If you routinely carry more, the braked models are the better answer, because a Bushbaby carries 1 100 kg. The licence codes and towing limits that apply are set out in the National Road Traffic Act.
Standard equipment
- Two-hob gas cooker with gas bottle holder
- Water tank with a lockable filler cap
- Collapsible wash-up table on stainless steel mounting brackets
- Roof rack with tent and a compartment for the washing table
- Large nose cone with a gas-lift assisted lid
- Four fold-down extension legs and a spare wheel
Water, gas and washing up
A fitted kitchen changes the rhythm of a camp more than the size of the trailer does. The cooker sits at working height instead of on the ground, the wash-up table folds down beside it, and grey water lands where you choose rather than in the sand at the door of the tent. The filler cap on the tank locks, which matters when the trailer stands in a public campsite overnight and matters more when it is carrying the only clean water for two days. Gas lives in its holder outside the body, so a bottle never shares space with bedding or food. None of this is complicated equipment, and that is the point: there is nothing fitted to this trailer that cannot be repaired in a small town, which is not true of every camper on the market.
Where it sits in the range
The XLX is the top of the unbraked line. Below it, the Savuti XL is the same body without the kitchen, and the standard Savuti is shorter again. Above it the braked trailers begin, and they are a different kind of purchase: heavier, longer, and rated to carry rather than to pack. Compare the tare and payload figures across the range under off-road and camping trailers.

Questions about this trailer
What does the Savuti XLX include over the XL?
A rooftop tent, a water tank with a lockable filler, a two-hob gas cooker with bottle holder and a collapsible wash-up table on stainless brackets, all fitted from new.
How much can the XLX carry?
350 kg. The fitted kitchen, tank and tent are counted in the 400 kg tare, and the trailer licences at 750 kg gross.
Does the XLX need brakes?
No. At 750 kg GVM it sits under the braking threshold and is supplied unbraked, so no braked coupling is needed on the tow vehicle.
How big is the water tank?
Venter does not publish a capacity for this tank. Ask before ordering and we will confirm it with the builder rather than quote a figure we cannot verify.
Can the kitchen layout be changed?
Changes are quoted per order through the builder. Send the detail with a quote request and we will price it in writing before anything is ordered.
