About this trailer

The Offroader off road trailer is the largest of the Venter off-road units before the reinforced Hunter: a 2 100 mm body on a braked 1 800 kg axle, 1 530 kg gross, carrying 1 030 kg on 215 by 15 inch wheels with 330 mm of clearance. Empty it weighs 500 kg.

What the Offroader off road trailer is built for

This is a trailer for long trips where the load is decided by volume and duration rather than by weight limits. The body runs 2 100 mm by 1 100 mm inside with 800 mm sides, and it loads through a 560 by 1 020 mm rear door and a 540 by 650 mm side door, so the things you need daily can sit at the side and the things you need at the end of the week can go deep.

Underneath is the specification that matters on gravel: a 12-blade 36 inch leaf pack on a 1 530 mm axle rated at 1 800 kg, 330 mm of clearance, and a heavy-duty galvanised auto-reverse coupler. The nose cone is 670 mm and takes the gas and the recovery gear, keeping the main body for equipment that has to stay clean and dry.

Payload, braking and the tow vehicle

1 030 kg is a full expedition load: water, fuel, a dual-compartment fridge, spares, tools and supplies for a party of four. The limit that binds first is almost never the trailer. It is the braked towing capacity of the vehicle and the combination mass your licence code allows, both of which should be checked before an order rather than after delivery. The requirements are set out in the National Road Traffic Act, and your vehicle handbook carries the rating. Send us the vehicle and we will work through it with you.

What the extra accessories version adds

  • Rear drawout rack for ammunition boxes, 900 mm x 1 130 mm
  • Side drawout rack, 455 mm x 1 075 mm
  • Washing table with nylon storage rollers and bungee retention
  • Stainless steel washing table mounting brackets
  • Lockable water tank filler cap
  • Zinc galvanised Sigma auto-reverse type coupler

The extended version weighs 520 kg rather than 500 kg and licences at 1 550 kg, so the payload stays at 1 030 kg. Unusually, the racks and table cost nothing in carrying capacity here, which is not the case on the smaller trailers in the range.

Offroader against the Bushbaby and the Hunter

The Bushbaby is 240 mm shorter in the body, 140 kg lighter and carries 1 100 kg, so it is the better answer if you tow with a smaller vehicle. The Hunter is the same 2 100 mm body on a reinforced chassis with a 2 500 kg axle, rated to carry 1 480 kg for hunting parties and heavy game loads. All three sit under off-road and camping trailers where the figures can be compared directly.

Packing and towing it

Volume is what people underestimate on a trailer this size. Two thousand one hundred millimetres of floor with 800 mm sides takes a rooftop tent on the rack, two 60 litre water containers, a full kitchen box, a fridge on a slide and still leaves room to reach the rear door without unpacking. The trailer tows at 3 800 mm overall, which is long enough to need a spotter on a tight turn but short enough to fit a standard double garage. Service parts are the ordinary ones: 15 inch tyres, run-in brake shoes, bearings and a standard coupler, all held in stock and fitted from our own yard.

How much does the Offroader carry?

1 030 kg. It weighs 500 kg empty and licences at 1 530 kg gross. The extra accessories version weighs 520 kg at 1 550 kg gross, so the payload is unchanged.

How does the Offroader differ from the Bushbaby?

Yes, run-in brakes with a galvanised auto-reverse type coupler, which is required above 750 kg GVM and allows normal reversing.

What are the door openings?
