Fittings supplied as standard

The standard build is aimed at owners who load and unload without help.

Towing, licensing and payload

At 2800 kg GVM this is not a light trailer and it must be towed by a vehicle rated for that mass. Run-in brakes are fitted, which the law requires above 750 kg GVM. Deduct the 1180 kg tare and you are left with 1620 kg of payload, enough for two mature horses plus tack. Licensing and towing rules sit in the National Road Traffic Act, and your licensing office will confirm what your licence code allows.

New Design Horse Box compared with the Royal Horse Box

The Royal Horse Box is the larger of the two. It runs a 3200 kg GVM against 2800 kg here, a 3825 mm body against 3370 mm and an inside width of 1730 mm against 1620 mm, and it adds a front ramp, removable rear stable doors and stainless steel tether rings. Tare climbs from 1180 kg to 1240 kg. If your horses are of normal riding height and you want the shorter and less expensive of the pair, this is the sensible pick.

Loading, ventilation and horse comfort

The gas lift ramp takes most of the weight out of the lift, so one person can drop and raise it. Inside, the perforated partition keeps both animals in sight of each other, which settles nervous travellers. Two roof vents and sliding side windows let you manage airflow in Northern Cape heat without putting the horses in a direct draught.

Finish, rust protection and care

The body is built from corrosion resistant rigidised zinc galvanised or electro galvanised steel, prime coated and finished in white. That layered approach is what keeps a horse box alive where dung, urine and coastal air all attack steel. Hose the floor out after every trip, let it dry with the ramp down, and check the ramp hinges and gas lifts before a long haul. The trailer carries South African design registration F2004/0491.
