About this trailer

Two point one metres of lockable body is the reason people choose the Elite 7 luggage trailer over the shorter models beside it. Tare is 180 kg, the gross rating is 700 kg and the payload before fitments is 520 kg, in a body 2 125 mm long and 1 180 mm wide inside. It is the largest luggage trailer in the range that still tows without brakes.

What the Elite 7 luggage trailer changes about a long trip

Length is the only variable that really moves across this range, and it moves the most here. Long items that will not lie flat in a six foot body go in without diagonal wedging: a folded gazebo, a stretcher bed, fishing rods, a rolled awning. For a family of five going away for two weeks, the difference between packing carefully and simply putting everything in is roughly this 365 mm. The trade is 3 175 mm of overall length behind the car, which is worth measuring against your driveway and your garage before you order.

The seven builds priced here

Each entry in the dropdown is its own factory build at its own price. Published tare masses are shown where the builder states them.

  • Base build with nose cone and spare wheel, 180 kg tare
  • Aluminium roofrack, 185 kg tare
  • Steel roofrack, 207 kg tare
  • Cycle rack, 207 kg tare
  • Extension frame, 209 kg tare
  • Grey body, no separate tare published
  • White body, no separate tare published

Grey and white bodies

Body colour on this model is priced as a configuration rather than offered as a free choice. The grey and white builds carry their own graphics and a more restrained styling treatment, and each sits at its own price above. Because no separate tare mass is published for them, we do not invent one; plan on the 180 kg base figure and ask us if the exact number matters.

Payload after fitments

Here is the number that catches people out. Gross vehicle mass does not rise when you add equipment, so every fitment is paid for twice, once in rands and once in payload. The base trailer allows 520 kg. The aluminium roofrack brings that to 515 kg, the steel roofrack and the cycle rack to 493 kg each, and the extension frame to 491 kg. A steel rack on a seven foot body therefore costs you 27 kg of legal load before a single bag goes on it.

Brakes, licensing and the 700 kg line

At 700 kg gross no braking system is fitted or required, which keeps the coupling simple and the maintenance light. Questions about licence codes, registration and roadworthy requirements belong to the National Road Traffic Act, published on the government website. Read it there, or ask your licensing office, rather than relying on a figure quoted by a salesperson.

Choosing between the six and the seven

If you tow mostly in town and pack light, the Elite 6 luggage trailer is easier to live with and gives you 20 kg more payload. If you travel far, twice a year, with the whole family, the longer body pays for itself the first time you do not have to leave something behind. Both sit alongside the rest of the range on the single-axle closed body trailers page.

Standard equipment

  • Nose cone with toggle catch and one 155 x 13 inch spare wheel
  • Eight tie-down ring holders inside the body
  • Six blade leaf springs on a 1 400 mm, 700 kg axle
  • Alko coupler with plug holder and a twin number plate light fitting
  • Two gas lifts, toggle catches and an aluminium handle on the lid

Delivery, warranty and ordering

Free delivery applies to every build on this page, since all of them are over R20 000, and you are welcome to collect from our yard in Hartswater instead. TRAILERS SA sells these trailers rather than builds them, so the cover is the builder warranty, which we administer on your behalf and explain on the warranty page. For a written quotation, finance or a trade-in figure, use the request a quote form and we will come back to you.

Questions about this trailer

What is the payload of the Elite 7?

520 kg on the base build, from a 700 kg gross rating less a 180 kg tare. With the aluminium roofrack it is 515 kg, with the steel roofrack or cycle rack 493 kg, and with the extension frame 491 kg.

How long is it overall?

3 175 mm from the coupling to the rear, with a body 2 125 mm long and 1 180 mm wide inside. Overall width is 1 550 mm and overall height is 1 085 mm.

Does a trailer this size need brakes?

No. It is rated at 700 kg gross and the specification lists no braking system. Licence and registration questions are set out in the National Road Traffic Act, which is the right place to check your own situation.

Are the grey and white bodies the same price as the standard finish?

No. They are separate builds and each carries its own price, shown in the dropdown. Body colour on this model is a priced configuration rather than a free selection.

Can I collect instead of taking delivery?

Yes. Collection from our Hartswater yard in the Northern Cape is always welcome, and delivery is free on orders over R20 000 in any case.
