About this trailer
The Elite 5 luggage trailer is the shortest model in the Venter luggage line and the one most often towed by a small car. Inside the body it measures 1 460 mm by 1 180 mm, it weighs 140 kg empty, and it is rated at 700 kg gross. That leaves 560 kg of payload on the base build.
What the Elite 5 luggage trailer is good at
Five foot of lockable, weatherproof space changes what a hatchback can do over a long weekend. Chairs, a cooler box, bedding, a tent and four soft bags travel inside instead of on the back seat. The lid seals against the body and locks, and two gas struts hold it open while you pack.

The four builds priced on this page
Each configuration below is a separate factory build with its own published tare mass and its own price. Pick the one you want from the dropdown above.
- Base build with nose cone and spare wheel, 140 kg tare
- Three-way aluminium roofrack, 148 kg tare
- Steel roofrack, 165 kg tare
- Extension frame, 158 kg tare
What each fitment costs you in payload
This is the arithmetic worth doing before you order. The gross vehicle mass stays at 700 kg no matter what is bolted to the trailer, so every kilogram of fitment comes straight off what you are allowed to load. The base trailer carries 560 kg. With the aluminium roofrack that becomes 552 kg, with the extension frame 542 kg, and with the steel roofrack 535 kg. Twenty five kilograms is not much on paper, but a roofrack attracts the heavy awkward items it was bought for, and those count twice: once for the rack and once for what goes on it.
Licensing and brakes at 700 kg
At 700 kg gross this trailer sits below the mass where an over-run brake is called for, which is why the specification lists no brakes. Registration, licence discs and the driving licence code that applies to you are set by the National Road Traffic Act rather than by us, and the current text is published on the South African government site. If you are unsure how your licence class reads against a trailer of this mass, check there or ask your licensing office before you tow.
Where this model sits in the range
The luggage range runs five, six and seven foot on the same 1 550 mm overall width and the same 155 x 13 inch wheels. Step up to the Elite 6 luggage trailer and you gain 300 mm of body length and 20 kg of tare. Nothing about towing changes except length, so the real question is how much you pack. The full range sits on the single-axle closed body trailers page.
Elite or Super at five foot
The published specifications for this trailer and the Super 5 luggage trailer match figure for figure: same body, same tare, same payload, same axle and the same springs. What separates them is range positioning and trim, and the small price gap reflects that rather than a mechanical difference. We would rather say so plainly than invent a distinction the data does not support.
Standard equipment
- Nose cone with toggle catch and one 155 x 13 inch spare wheel
- Six tie-down ring holders inside the body
- Alko coupler with plug holder and a twin number plate light fitting
- Two gas lifts, toggle catch and aluminium handle on the lid
- Long life axle with larger bearings, plus bump stops
One practical note on packing: the nose cone carries the spare wheel and swallows small items, which keeps the main body clear for bulky luggage. Load the heavy things over the axle, strap them to the tie-down rings, and the trailer sits level and tracks straight behind the car instead of wandering.

Questions about this trailer
Does the Elite 5 luggage trailer need brakes?
No. It is rated at 700 kg gross, which is below the mass where an over-run braking system is called for, and the published specification lists no brakes. Licence and registration questions are governed by the National Road Traffic Act.
How much can it actually carry?
560 kg on the base build. Every fitment eats into that because the 700 kg gross figure does not move: 552 kg with the aluminium roofrack, 542 kg with the extension frame and 535 kg with the steel roofrack.
What is the difference between the Elite 5 and the Super 5?
On the published figures, nothing mechanical. Body size, tare, payload, axle, springs and wheels are identical. The difference is range positioning and trim, and it shows up as a small price gap.
Can a roofrack be added after delivery?
The racks on this page are priced as factory build configurations rather than as bolt-on extras, so the cheapest route is to order the build you want. Ask us through the quote form if you need something fitted later.
Do you deliver, and what does it cost?
Delivery is free on orders over R20 000, which covers every build on this page. You are also welcome to collect from our yard in Hartswater in the Northern Cape.
