WhatsApp about this trailerAbout this trailer
The 3 ton dropside trailer is the heavy version of the 4.0 m dropside, a 4.0 m by 2.2 m unit plated at 3 000 kg gross on twin 1 800 kg axles. It carries the same 300 mm fold-flat sides and rear gate but plates 700 kg higher, for operators whose loads would push a 2.3 ton dropside over its limit.
What the 3 ton dropside trailer is built for
At 3 000 kg GVM this is a serious working dropside. Sand, stone, rubble, bricks or a compact machine travel inside the licensed mass rather than against it, and the drop sides mean the same trailer loads flat by forklift or holds a loose load behind 300 mm sides. It is the trailer for a builder or plant operator who wants the versatility of a dropside with the plating to actually fill it.
Build and deck
The deck is a 2.0 mm steel-plate floor on a 76 x 38 x 5 mm open-channel ladder-frame chassis, wheels under the trailer to keep the full 2.2 m width. The 300 mm drop sides and rear gate are plated on a steel frame and hinge flat. It runs twin 1 800 kg leaf-sprung axles, is braked, and is finished in painted 2K Duco.

Payload, GVM and licensing
Plated at 3 000 kg gross on 1 800 kg axles, this trailer needs a tow vehicle with real braked towing capacity and, for most drivers, an EB licence code. The supplier publishes no dependable tare, so we confirm the empty mass and payload in writing before you order. Load securing sits with the towing driver under the National Road Traffic Act, and we will check the tow requirements with you.
Where it sits in the range
This is the heavy 4.0 m dropside. The 2.3 ton 4.0 m dropside shares the deck but plates lower for lighter loads, and the 6.0 m dropside is longer again. Compare the range under double-axle cargo trailers, or browse the full range.

Questions about this trailer
How is the 3 ton dropside different from the 2.3 ton?
Same 4.0 m x 2.2 m deck and 300 mm drop sides, but plated 700 kg higher at 3 000 kg GVM on twin 1 800 kg axles for heavier loads.
What licence do I need?
At 3 000 kg GVM most drivers need an EB code and the tow vehicle needs matching braked towing capacity. We check both with you before you order.
What is the payload?
It is plated at 3 000 kg on 1 800 kg axles. The supplier publishes no reliable tare, so we confirm empty mass and payload in writing before you order.
Can it load flat?
Yes. Drop the 300 mm sides and it loads like a flatbed by forklift; raise them for loose loads.
Do you deliver nationwide?
Yes, free on orders over R20 000, with collection from Hartswater available.
