A braked utility trailer runs an overrun braking system on a 1,500 kg square axle, so the trailer helps stop itself rather than pushing the tow vehicle. We stock them on 3 m and 4 m decks with 14 inch wheels and a two-tonne braked coupler.
The moment a loaded trailer weighs a meaningful fraction of the vehicle towing it, braking stops being a specification line and becomes the reason the trip ends well. An overrun coupler senses the trailer running up on the tow vehicle under deceleration and applies the trailer’s own brakes proportionally. On a long descent, on wet tar, or in the moment a taxi stops in front of you, that is the difference.
Our braked single-axle trailers are built for people who load properly. A 1,500 kg braked square axle sits on 8-blade leaf springs under a 2.5 mm hot-rolled steel floor on 75 x 38 mm U-channel. The 3 m deck is 1.5 m wide with sides from 900 mm to 1.2 m. The 4 m deck is 1.8 m wide with 1.2 m sides, which is a genuine pallet-and-a-half of space.
Wheels are 14 inch on 195C tyres across the range, which gives more sidewall and a higher load rating than the 13 inch fitment on the non-braked trailers, and matters on gravel where a smaller tyre works harder.
Farms, plumbers, builders and equipment hire fleets buy in this range. If you need more than 1,500 kg, the double-axle cargo trailers take the rating to 3,000 kg. If you rarely load past half a tonne, the non-braked range is lighter and cheaper.
