Mobile chillers are insulated, refrigerated trailer bodies that hold a set temperature on shore power or a generator. TRAILERS SA supplies chiller units from 500 kg capacity, running 0 to 8 degrees, for butchers, caterers, farm packhouses and event operators right across South Africa.
A mobile chiller solves a problem that a cold box and a bag of ice cannot. Once product has to hold temperature for longer than a few hours, or has to travel, or has to sit on a site for a weekend, you need an actual refrigeration circuit and enough insulation to keep the compressor from running flat out. Seventy five millimetres of polyurethane in the panel is the number that makes that work in a South African summer.
The units are built as a sealed insulated box on a galvanised chassis, lined in stainless with an aluminium checker plate floor and an internal drain so the whole interior can be washed down. An air-cooled condenser sits outside the body, a digital thermostat holds the setpoint, and a high-temperature audible alarm tells you the door has been left open before the stock is a write-off. Temperature reads out inside and outside.
Power is the decision that catches people. The standard fit is 220 volt shore power, which is fine at a packhouse or a venue with a plug. If the unit is going to a farm gate, a game auction or an outdoor event, specify a generator set with it. Capacities run 500, 1000 and 1500 kg, and remote temperature monitoring is worth having if the load is worth more than the trailer.
Ask us for the duty cycle you actually need before you choose a capacity. A unit sized for peak load runs less, lasts longer and costs less to run than one that is working at its limit every day. Free nationwide delivery applies over R20,000 with code TSA26.
