A single-axle closed body trailer is a lockable, weather-sealed Chromadek steel box on one axle. Bodies run from 1.22 x 2.25 m up to 1.5 x 3.0 m, at 1.8 m or 2.1 m internal height, on leaf-spring suspension with reinforced lockable rear and side doors fitted as standard.
The reason to buy enclosed rather than open is that you stop thinking about the load. It does not get rained on, it does not blow out, and it does not walk away while the trailer stands overnight outside a guesthouse in a strange town.
Chromadek cladding over a steel frame is the specification that makes that hold up over years rather than months. It keeps colour under South African sun where painted panel chalks and fades, and it resists the surface corrosion that starts at every fastener on a cheaper build. Every joint is sealed, because an enclosed trailer that lets water in is worse than an open one under a tarp, and the load has no way to dry out.
Doors are reinforced at the frame rather than only at the hinge, which is where most box trailers eventually fail, and lockable rear and side access means you can reach the front of the load without unpacking everything behind it.
Three body sizes cover most of the demand. The 1.22 x 2.25 x 1.8 m body suits a tradesman’s tools and a compact tow vehicle. The 1.5 x 3.0 x 1.8 m body is the general-purpose size. The 1.5 x 3.0 x 2.1 m body adds standing-height volume for anything bulky and light.
Bodies here come from two build tiers, which is why prices vary so much for a similar box. The lower-priced units are lighter-duty builds for gentler use. The premium bodies are galvanised, nationally distributed, and publish tare, GVM and payload on every model, with tare from 140 kg and payloads up to 560 kg.
Couriers, tradesmen, market traders and touring families buy in this range. For volume beyond this, the tandem-axle bodies run to 6 m.
