Who we are, where we build, how we build, and the registration details behind the name.

TRAILERS SA is a trailer manufacturer based in Hartswater, Northern Cape, South Africa. We build and supply fuel bowsers, utility and cargo trailers, livestock trailers, car trailers, closed body trailers, mobile kitchens and light towers, and we deliver them to every province in the country.

Where we are, and why it matters

Hartswater sits in the Vaalharts irrigation scheme, between Kimberley and Vryburg. It is farming country, and beyond it is mining country. The trailers that get built here get built for people who load them properly and then drive them on gravel.

That location shapes the product. A trailer designed for a paved suburb and a trailer designed for a farm road are not the same trailer, even when the brochure numbers match. Corrugation finds weak welds. Dust finds bearings. Heat finds cheap paint. Building in the Northern Cape means those failures show up in our own back yard, on our own customers’ vehicles, which is a strong incentive to over-engineer rather than under-quote.

How we build

Every trailer in the range starts with a U-channel steel chassis, either 75 x 38 mm or 100 x 50 mm depending on the rating. Frames and drop sides are 50 x 50 mm mild steel. Decks are 2.5 mm hot-rolled mild steel plate, not thinner sheet that dents the first time a pallet lands on it.

Running gear is matched to the mass, not to the price. Trailers up to 750 kg gross vehicle mass run a single non-braked axle. From 1,500 kg upward we fit a braked square axle and an overrun coupler, and above that a tandem braked pair with a hydraulically damped galvanised cast-iron coupler. Springs are specified in blades, from a five-blade pack on the lightest units to ten blades on the heavy-duty car trailers.

Road equipment is fitted as standard rather than sold as an upgrade. That means four-in-one combination rear lighting, a seven-pin trailer plug, red front and white rear mudguard reflectors, a 1150 mm rear chevron board, and 50 mm yellow reflective tape down roughly seventy percent of both sides.

The range

Eight categories cover most of what a South African buyer needs. Fuel and water bowsers from 500 to 3,000 litres in mild steel, 3CR12 stainless or double-layer polyurethane. Utility and cargo trailers from 2.0 to 4.0 metres, braked and non-braked. Livestock trailers from 3.0 to 5.0 metres with centre gates and non-slip floors. Car trailers with ramps, closed Chromadek bodies, mobile kitchens, diesel light towers and specialist units such as cable drum trailers.

Where the catalogue does not fit, we build to the job. Tell us the load, the duty cycle and the tow vehicle, and the chassis, tank or body gets engineered around it.

Who you are dealing with

TRAILERS SA trades as a registered South African company. Company Registration Number 2015/077106/07. VAT Number 4060277664. The registered address and the works are the same place: 1 Dwars St, Hartswater, 8570, Northern Cape.

Every price on this site includes VAT at 15 percent, and a full tax invoice carrying that VAT number is issued on payment. You are welcome to inspect a trailer at the works before you settle.

Materials and finish

Steel is bought to specification rather than to whatever is cheapest that month. Hot-rolled mild steel plate for decks, square tube for frames and drop sides, U-channel for chassis. Tank work splits three ways depending on what the tank has to hold: 2.5 mm mild steel where the liquid is diesel and the budget matters, 2.5 mm 3CR12 stainless where corrosion or hygiene is the concern, and 10 mm double-layer polyurethane where the tank needs to be light, rust-proof and indifferent to UV.

Finish is not decoration on a trailer. It is the difference between a chassis that lasts a decade in Northern Cape sun and one that blooms rust along every weld inside two winters. Surfaces are prepared before coating, and coatings are chosen for the environment the trailer will actually live in, which for most of our customers means dust, heat and the occasional wash-down.

What we do not do

We do not quote a lead time we cannot hold. We do not publish a specification we have not built. We do not put a certification mark on a page because it looks reassuring. If a number on this site is not something we can stand behind, it is not on this site.

That has a practical consequence worth stating plainly: where a figure is still being confirmed, you will see it left out rather than filled in with an estimate. Ask, and you will get the real answer or an honest “we are checking that”.

How buying works

Enquire by phone, WhatsApp or the form. We match a deck size, a gross vehicle mass and a braking configuration to the load and the tow vehicle, then send a written quote with the full specification on it. Stock units are allocated immediately. Custom builds go onto the workshop schedule with a build date in writing.

When the trailer is ready it is either collected free from the works, or delivered. Delivery is free anywhere in South Africa on any order over R20,000 using code TSA26 at checkout. Full detail is on the delivery page, and the aftersales side is covered under spares and service.
